Abstract

Due to vibration disturbances, an optical storage device may malfunction or it may miss the track, which optical pickup has to read. The operational malfunction or rotational noise of an optical disk can be caused by the rotational speed of the disk or external vibration disturbances. In this paper, a VDR (Versatile Digital Recorder) deck with isolators is modeled as a 3-DOF lumped model with base flexibility. The passive sensitivity function including base flexibility and the transmissibility function is introduced as a representative evaluation index of the deck system. The mechanical parameters of the model are determined by a tuning method based on a complex sensitivity analysis. The modification amount of the original model also can be determined using a sensitivity analysis to attenuate vibration transmissibility. The vibration isolation performances are compared through simulation and experiment. The final purpose of this paper is to suggest the direction for future work on vibration isolation with a highly damped deck system.
