N2 - This paper proposes a target parking position designation method based on parking slot marking recognition for automatic parking system. To reduce the search range and memory requirement, the driver designates two seed-points which are the end-point of two line-segments separating the target parking slot from adjacent parking slots. As the method does not require marking line separating parking area from roadway, it can be applied to various parking slot marking types. The method was tested with two parking slot marking types, i.e. rectangular type and 11-shape type.
