Abstract
The Optical Society of Korea (OSK) continued to help the growth and development of optical science optical science in South Korea over a period of twenty years by promoting innovation and supporting growth in industrial technology. The OSK was established as a division of the Korean Physical Society devoted to optics and quantum electronics. It was formally founded in 1989 by a group of scientists from different technical societies that included the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea, along with chemistry and mechanical engineering societies. It actively participated in global activities from the late 1990s, organizing various international conferences, including the International Commission for Optics Congress in 1996. The society's rapid growth was a direct result of the dedication of its members who helped encourage optical research and applications throughout the country.
