Abstract

The main purpose of this work is to analyze and interpret the X-ray image by using some knowledge base that relates objects within a scene to one another and to the scene background. Knowledge-based Image Analysis System (KIAS) is a prototype environment for image analysis and interpretation. KIAS consists of an image processing system and an expert system. It oversees image preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, knowledge representation, and object interpretation. An automatic segmentation algorithm is used to minimize a human inspector's intervention in the image processing system, and a rule-based approach is used in the expert system.
