Abstract

Robotic surgery is a successful approach to the management of curable patients with gastric cancer. Many gastric cancer surgeons have adopted robotic technology to assist them in the technically challenging procedure of gastrectomy with lymphadenectomy. Robotic surgery for gastric cancer has been demonstrated to be safe and feasible. In addition to the short-term benefits of robotic gastrectomy, which parallel that of laparoscopy; surgical oncologists who treat gastric cancer patients can readily adhere to the oncologic principles of gastric cancer treatment including no touch technique, negative margins, and adequate LN dissection. With a potential shorter learning curve of the robotic gastric cancer operation over the laparoscopic approach, application of robotics to gastric cancer treatment may benefit both the patient and the surgeon.
