Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the interrelationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and sports participation by Koreans during their leisure time. National data from the 2012 National Leisure Activity Research of Korea were used. The t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted. First, each factor related to education, income, and occupation was significantly associated with the sports participation score. Second, overall SES was significantly associated with the sports participation score. To conclude, although the various dispositions among different social classes is a natural societal phenomenon, considering the higher value attributed to sports participation, it would be important to institute societal intervention for people in the lower SES groups to take more part in sports.
