Abstract

This paper presents a semi-automatic method for creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional models of building interiors, based upon point clouds from terrestrial LiDAR. Three major problems are identified for ease of the modeling process: 1) a huge size of point clouds, 2) clutters and occlusion, and 3) insufficient accuracy and details of two- or three- dimensional models. The proposed method, which consists of pre-processing, 2D modeling, and 3D modeling stages, is thendevelopedconsidering various aspects of problems in a streamlined modelingprocess. For verification and demonstration purposes, the LiDAR surveying is conducted toan office room that contains occlusions and clutters. Two- and three-dimensional models are created after detailed-editing to outcomes from theproposed method.
