Abstract

Supramolecular hydrogen bonds between dumbbell-shaped molecules and macrocycles containing Os(VI)-N coordinate bonds led to spontaneous assembly of rotaxane-like complexes (see picture). As a result of the reversible nature of the Os(VI)-N bonds, the ratio of the free species to the rotaxane- like complex could be precisely controlled in solution by varying the concentrations of the two components.
