Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely used in many important fields such as detection, tracking, tactical and environmental monitoring systems. WSN consists of large amount of small cheap sensor nodes that are distributed in the same area for collecting data. In this paper, we design a new asynchronous duty cycling MAC protocol for WSN called to RU-MAC, which reduces listening time of sensor nodes and increases the energy efficiency of WSN. To validate RU-MAC, we implemented the proposed scheme in NS2. Simulation results show that RU-MAC considerably reduces the energy consumption.
