Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristic of current thermal environment in the apartments' living rooms and the problems of current heating systems and control method in Seoul, Korea. This result will contribute to the improvement of control devices of floor heating system. We investigated thermal environment and residents' control behaviors of heating systems in twelve apartments during two weeks in February, 2004. In result, residents showed low clothing insulation value compare to season, and there were differences in residents' control behaviors relative to their heating systems. This is due to the method of calculating heating cost by the heating system and by the differences of thermostats' design. The individual heating system yields more control behaviors and prevents excessive heating than the central heating system.
