Abstract

A web BBS is one of representative interfaces in a web community. Web queries for the BBS have the inefficiency that a query optimizer should read all the contents of the BBS stored in a database every query, since web mechanism cannot memorize the previous state. In addition, the queries in a web BBS should guarantee the 'random page jump' property characterizing the BBS. In this paper, a query optimization method and its SQL statements for a web BBS are proposed using Oracle's new facilities - a window-based analytic function and a function-based index. Also, the proposed queries are verified through applying them to a real web community, showing that they make meaningful improvements in query performance.
