Abstract

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for forward link beamforming jointly with power control and RAKE combining, which the total transmit power is minimized and effective signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) at each mobile is grater than the target SINR at the same time. In the algorithm, the beamforming weight vectors are determined by the virtual uplink SINR maximization criterion [1], and the multi-path combining weight vectors are selected by minimum mean squared error (MMSE) criterion. The virtual uplink SINR maximization beamforming schemes can reduce the total transmit power compared to the maximal ratio transmission (MRT) schemes [2] through system level simulation. It is observed that diversity gain is obtained by mobile equipped with the multi-path combiner.
