Abstract

In this paper, we investigate performance of various interpolation kernels for a single-chip CCD (charge-coupled device). Most digital still cameras use a single-chip due to the cost and interpolate missing pixels in order to reconstruct full-color images. Frequently, the interpolation is performed using the bilinear interpolation method due to the simple implementation and fast processing time. However, the bilinear interpolation may introduce artifacts such as aliasing and blurring. In this paper we compare the performances of various interpolation algorithms for the color filter array. Experiments show that improvement is possible with a good selection of interpolation kernel.
