Abstract

We report the formation of nanocrystals in the shear band of a Ti40Zr29Cu9Ni8Be14 bulk metallic glass which exhibits a large plastic strain. The nanocrystals in the shear band have the same crystal structure as the high temperature Laves phase which appears during crystallization by heating, strongly suggesting a temperature rise in the shear band.
