Abstract

This paper presents experiment results showing the relationship between operating temperature and the lifetime of mobile devices. Conventional knowledge is that energy-efficiency is higher at lower operating temperatures. However, we show that this assumption is not always true, because the energy-efficiency of mobile device is governed not only by static leakage power but also by the chemical characteristics of the battery. We believe that future research on thermal management of mobile devices should consider the results of these observations.
