Abstract

In this paper, we present an objective video quality assessment method based on the wavelet transform. The proposed method is a full-reference method. In other words, it requires both reference video and a processed video sequences. In the proposed method, we apply a two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to each video sequence. Then, the mean square error is computed for each subband block for all frames. We also compute modified mean square errors using only pixels whose magnitudes exceed a threshold. Experiments show that this modified procedure provides improved performance.
