Abstract

In the paper, the design of the multilayer helical dipole antenna (MHDA) for International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) handset, which is compact and has a wide impedance bandwidth, is demonstrated. The MHDA can obtain size-reduction and wide impedance bandwidth by using dielectric material (εr=7.8), fabricating helical conductor pattern, and designing the structures with high radiation resistance. The MHDA consists of a rectangular-parallelepiped ceramic body and helical conductor patterns are embedded in the body using LTCC technology. The simulations are performed to obtain a good impedance matching by high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). A 3D structure design of MHDA suitable for IMT-2000 (1920-2170MHz) handset has been implemented, and experimental results are presented and discussed.
