Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the possibility to use the built-in camera of a mobile phone to send fax. Most recent mobile phones have built-in cameras. Thus, it will be possible to acquire a document using the built-in camera and fax the document. However, due to the limited capability of the built-in camera and sub-optimal environments, the picture quality of the document is usually poor. To address this problem, we first apply locally adaptive thresholding and then modified morphology is used to improve picture quality. Experimental results show that it would be possible to send fax from a mobile phone with acceptable quality.
