Abstract

We have studied the wetting of thin liquid (perfluoromethylcyclohexane) films on surfaces nano-patterned with hexagonally packed arrays of cylindrical nano-cavities by X-ray scattering methods. The liquid adsorption on the substrate was controlled precisely by varying the chemical potential of the liquid with respect to the value at liquid/vapor coexistence. We have probed the structural evolution of the wetting film inside the cavities and on the planar regions between them. The results are compared with theoretical predictions.
