Abstract

Large eddy simulations have been performed for fully developed turbulent channel flows with unstable density stratification and significant heat transfer. An implicit finite volume scheme was used to solve the preconditioned, time-dependent, compressible, three-dimensional filtered Navier-Stokes equations using a dynamic subgrid-scale model to account for the subgrid-scale effects. Results were obtained for two Grashof numbers for a channel with one wall heated and one wall cooled at a temperature ratio of three.
