Abstract
The sterilization methods using atmospheric pressure plasma has attracted attentions because it is harmless and does not require second settlement. However, the atmospheric pressure plasma processing such as dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) and corona discharge requires the minimum gap distance between the electrodes to sustain glow discharge. Moreover, such a short distance between the electrodes prevents these conventional plasma processing types from being applied to the large and 3-dimensional irregularly shaped manufactures. In this study, the atmospheric pressure plasma jet system (APPJS), which dispersed plasma by injected gas pressure, was used to solve the drawbacks of the conventional sterilization methods of atmospheric pressure plasma. To confirm that APPJS is superior to the conventional plasma systems in the sterilization process, characteristics of APPJS is compared with those of the conventional plasma systems. In addition, sterilization mechanism of each type was investigated by parametric study of the plasma.
