Abstract
The behavior of acceleration near a solid wall was discussed using direct numerical simulation of a fully developed turbulent channel flow. It was found that acceleration near the wall was highly intermittent and the intermittency was in large part associated with the near wall organized coherent turbulent structure. The acceleration of large magnitude was mostly directed towards the rotation axis. Analysis shows that source of the intermittent acceleration was the rotational motion associated with the vortices that caused centripetal acceleration.
