Abstract
The interlayer exchange coupling in spin valves was analyzed. It was found that capping a spin valve with reflective oxide layer makes the interlayer coupling oscillatory as a function of Cu spacer thickness. The analysis showed that the oxide layer increases specular reflection of conduction electrons at the interface which increases the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) value of the spin valve.
