Abstract

(La, Sr)MnO3 (LSM)-yttria-doped ZrO2 (YSZ) composite was prepared using a polymeric resin-derived LSM precursor coated on the YSZ particles to improve the performance and durability of the solid oxide fuel cell cathode. The synthesized LSM-YSZ composite powder was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscope. The cathodic performance of the symmetrical electrochemical cell with different LSM-YSZ ratios was investigated by measuring with impedance spectroscopy. There was an optimum ratio at which cathodic polarization was minimized because of better homogeneity, longer triple-phase boundary, and sufficient ionic conductivity. A cyclic current loading test was further carried out for rapid evaluation of aging effect of coated composite cathode, which was compared with mechanically mixed LSM-YSZ powder.
