Abstract

In this paper, we propose a high performance deinterlacing method using vertical-temporal filtering with spatial registration. The vertical-temporal filtering method performs compares favorably with existing deinterlacing methods with low computational complexity. However, it produces undesired artifacts in motion scenes since it assumes constant frame differences. By applying vertical-temporal filtering after spatial registeration, we can reduce deinterlacing artifacts. To reduce computational complexity for the spatial registration, we use sub-sampled pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves video quality in terms of subjective and objective evaluations.
