Abstract

In this paper, we present a full-reference video quality measurement method for multimedia applications. With the advancement of compression and communications technologies, it is now possible to transmit multimedia services over communication channels. However, due to transmission errors, quality monitoring has become an important problem. The proposed full-reference method first measures edge degradation which are critical for perceptual video quality and then takes into account blurring and blocking effects. Then, it further considers transmission error effects. We compared the proposed method with some existing methods. Independent verifications confirmed that the proposed method showed good performance and consequently it was included in an ITU recommendation.
