Abstract
The relationship between the chemical composition of the molten slag and foaming index is investigated. The foam height of molten slag was measured by electric circuit in vertical resistance furnace. The viscosity and the surface tension were correlated with the foaming index. Viscosity of the molten slag was the major factor affecting foaming index. Thus the relationship between silicate network structure of molten slag and foaming index was also evaluated. In case of the addition of surface active element, the foam stability is increased by Marangoni effect and lower surface tension.
