Abstract

The fabrication of polyurethane foam which exhibits negative Poisson's ratio and its application for the diabetic patients' shoes were discussed. SEM was used to study the cellular morphology of the prepared PU foam and mechanical testing of PU foams was performed by MTS 858.20 bionix testing machine. The volume-restricted foam showed partially concave-typed cell shape and smaller size compared with those of free-puffed out foams. The tensile testing of PU foam shows that the modified foam exhibits higher Young's modulus and tensile strength than volume-unrestricted foam.
