Abstract
The thermodynamic behavior of chlorine ion in the CaO-SiO 2-Al 2O 3-MgO slags during blast furnace process was investigated. The stability of chlorine ion in molten slags was investigated by measuring the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra of the quenched slags containing chlorine. It was found that the solubility of chlorine in the specified slag was measured at various compositions in controlled atmospheres. The experiments show that chlorine ion had a strong attraction with calcium cation in molten slag. The results show that the reaction of chlorine dissolution into molten slags was exothermic and therefore chloride capacity decreased with increasing temperature.
