Abstract

This paper presents a new error resilient entropy coding (EREC) scheme with optimal channel-matched searching pattern (SP) for robust transmission of coded video. In order to maximize the efficiency of EREC technique, the proposed scheme pre-reorders the coded bitstream before the bits reorganization algorithm in EREC. Then, the coded bitstream is reorganized into the predefined data structure (called 'slot') according to the proposed optimal SP. The proposed SP is optimal in the sense that it yields minimum distortion in the decoded video after transmitting bitstream over binary symmetric channel (BSC). Simulations performed on the slightly modified H.263 codec demonstrate a significant improvement on the reproduced video quality in comparison to the results from conventional EREC schemes.
