Abstract
The variations in impact of adaptive strategies with a change in observation density was studied. It was observed that for a small number of observations, several of the adaptive strategies tested reduced forecast error more than nonadaptive strategy. A large number of observations made it comparitively more difficult to reduce forecast errors using adaptive observations. The evolved singula vector (SV) strategies were found to perform as well or better than the adjoint-based strategies for both observation densities.
