Abstract

This study investigates the electroencephalogram (EEG) associated with thermal displeasure induced by temperature step change. This chamber experiment was conducted on 35 participants. The experimental conditions had temperature up-step change between two different room conditions (room A: 25℃, 50% and room B: 32℃, 65%) and down-step change between two different room conditions (room A: 25℃, 50% and room B: 15℃, 50%). The subjects answered to the thermal sensation vote and thermal comfort vote during experiments. The EEG was divided and analyzed according to the five frequency bands. As a result, in the up-step change condition, the relative theta power of the frontal lobe decreased, and the relative beta and gamma power in the parietal lobe and frontal lobe, respectively, increased. Under the down-step change condition, the relative theta power of the frontal lobe decreased. In addition, as a result of examining the correlation between thermal comfort vote and EEGs, the relative gamma power of the frontal lobe increased as the thermal displeasure with up-step change increased, and the value of the relative theta and alpha power increased as the thermal displeasure with down-step change decreased.
