Abstract
Effects of long-term nitrogen addition on soil enzyme activities were studied in a forest floor. Nitrogen was applied as sodium nitrate and ammonium nitrate for five years. Only the ammonium nitrate addition decreased urease activity, whilst proteinase activity was increased in all treatments including control of water-only addition. No differences, however, were detected in dehydrogenase and phosphatase activities.
