Abstract
This study identifies an effective parental mediation strategy for the use of smart phones during early childhood. Diffusion of smart devices has brought not only advantages, but also several negative effects, such as smartphone addiction. In Korea it is a major social problem that affects children. Prior studies focusing on smartphone addiction of children under the age of five are still in early stages. Accordingly, this study examines children's smartphone use and types of parental mediation. Individual and focus group interviews were conducted, and 'active mediation' analyzed as the most effective type. As the initial research, this study provides substantial academic insights for future studies.
