Abstract

A study was conducted to observe the wear debris contamination behavior of a head/slider by using a constant speed drag testing method. For this study, DLC coated silicon planar nano-sliders and commercially available magnetic disks were used. Experiments were conducted in a Class 100 clean hood at room temperature and a relative humidity of about 20%. Experimental results show that wear debris tend to accumulate at the leading edge of the slider during the initial stage of sliding. Further, the debris was found to move into the sliding interface.
