Dual-path dual-polarized antenna system for SDARS application

This paper presents a novel compact dual-polarized antenna system that integrates two-stage low noise amplifiers (LNA) from operation from 2.320 GHz to 2.345 GHz. The developed antenna system incorporates a low profile annular ring patch antenna with a 90° phase delay element for circular polarization (CP) and a reactively loaded monopole linear polarized (LP) antenna. The CP annular ring patch antenna is fed from underneath while maintaining the phase difference of 90° between the two feeding points, resulting in more than 50% volume reduction compared with previous work. In addition, the demonstrated antenna exhibits good axial ratio with for a wide range of elevation angle. Furthermore, dual-path two-stage LNA is implemented with low power consumption, high isolation, and a single port for both dc bias as well as RF output. The gains of the antenna system with LNA are measured to be 31.3 dBi and 21.9 dBi for the CP, and the LP, respectively.
