Abstract
The use of specularly reflective oxide layers in enhancing the giant magnetoresistance effect in spin valves is discussed. It was found that if the free layer is thinner than the pinned layer, the specularity at the free layer becomes an important factor in determining the behavior of the magnetoconductance. Moreover, in a spin valve with a thick free layer it is important to control the specularity at the pinned layer.
