Abstract

Despite the importance of engineering, young students in Korea are not exposed to a proper engineering education until they enter college to major in it. This situation leads to difficulty in recruiting talented students to colleges of engineering. In this paper, we first review various youth engineering programs in the UK and US. Next, we present the design and implementation a youth engineering adventure program (YEAP) for Korean students. Most young people who participated in YEAP were satisfied, and they responded that their interest in engineering increased. We expect that YEAPcan eventually contribute to national industry development by increasing young people's interest in and enthusiasm for engineering.
