Abstract
Acid corrosion behavior of highly-crystallizable BaO-Nd2O3-TiO2-B2O3 glass/ceramic composites has been investigated when different types of filler (Al2O3 and BaTiO3) and acid chemicals (HCl and H2SO4) are used. Higher levels of leaching of >35% were apparently observed with increasing leaching time up to 300min, particularly for the case of the BaTiO3 filler in 10vol.% HCl. Apart from the extensive leaching of interior residual glass, preferential leaching of crystallized borate compounds of NdBO3 and BaTi(BO3)2 rather than titanate compounds of BaNd2Ti5O14 and Nd2Ti4O11 was believed to be responsible for the unusually high leaching performance.
