Abstract

Fringe structures within an evanescent field can be created via multiple reflections of coherent illumination yielding a reconfigurable template for microparticle manipulation. Due to transverse optical gradients and radiation pressure, colloidal microspheres can be laterally trapped and longitudinally guided along the direction of propagation of the evanescent surface waves.
