Abstract
A new structure along with expanded degree of freedom in design and manipulation of optical characteristics in a hollow core optical fiber was provided. Using unique guiding properties of the hollow core fiber, novel fiber devices with verstile functionalities that were not achieved in prior arts were demonstrated. This paper focuses on the optical communication applications of the hollow core fiber (HCF) and will review the design philosophies, fabrication arts, device integration, and system demonstration.
