An experiment to study a "nondiffracting" light beam

We present a simple experiment by which a student can generate and study a zeroth-order Bessel beam. Such beams are often termed nondiffracting (propagation invariant) as they have a central maximum that can propagate for extended distances without experiencing appreciable spreading.
