Abstract

In the early stages of architectural design, reference images are crucial for design communication; however, they are often captured and used in a subjective, unstandardized manner. The medium of traditional photography necessitates taking multiple shots to fully represent a space; in contrast 360-degree panoramic images offer a comprehensive single-image view, capturing diverse perspectives and detailed spatial information. However, despite these advantages, panoramic images remain underutilized in the early stages of architectural design due to challenges in selecting suitable reference images for design communication. To address this gap, this study presents a novel AI-based approach for systematically creating and archiving 360-degree panoramic images that can be used as interior design reference images. The proposed approach contributes to the refinement of the interpretation accuracy of 360-degree panoramic images and enhances their systematic organization. This approach also streamlines image storage and retrieval processes, thus facilitating their effective use in design communication.
