A novel of experimental studies of the optical guiding of a low-velocity intense source (LVIS) of atoms emanating from a rubidium MOT is presented. Detailed simulations show the use of self-regenerating Bessel beams would allow guide reconstruction over only a few mm. This offers an important step towards creating an all-optical atom interferometer.
