Abstract

ZigBee is the only standard-based technology that addresses the unique needs of most remote monitoring and control and sensory network applications. This paper presents a SoC implementation methodology of ZigBee MAC/PHY layer standard (IEEE 802.15.4) at 2.4GHz RF band. The embedded 8-bit microcontroller (8051 Compatible, running at 22.1184MHz) is MAC engine which does all the MAC functions. In our SoC design, the MAC is software driven which makes it flexible for various needs and applications. We verified our design in FPGA platform and then implemented the proposed design on a chip (Samsung 0.35um CMOS technology).
