Abstract

This paper presents a superconducting synchronous generator with a fixed-type field coil. The feasibility of the proposed design was verified by finite element method analysis. Unlike conventional superconducting synchronous generators, the proposed superconducting synchronous generator has two rotor cores with homopolar and circular superconducting field coils. This structure has advantages in the design and fabrication of excitation and cooling systems for superconducting field coils. In addition, the circular superconducting field coils are easier to manufacture with high tension as compared to the racetrack field coils or similarly shaped field coils for the conventional superconducting synchronous generators. This paper provides useful data for the design and fabrication of a superconducting synchronous generator.
