In life testing, Type I or Type II censored data are usually observed. An important feature of censored life testing is time saving. Several measures of time saving have appeared in the literature for Type II censored data. The purposes of this note are to review different measures of time saving and discuss their different roles in planning censored life testing, to generalize one measure of time saving to a general distribution, to extend some results to the multi-parameter case and Type I censoring case, respectively, and to show by an example how the method is used to demonstrate the time saving in planning censored life testing.
