Abstract

The noise predictive partial response decision feedback equalizers for perpendicular magnetic recording channels were analyzed. The performance of partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) method can be improved by incorporating noise prediction scheme into the branch metric computations of the Viterbi algorithm. However, these systems have shortcomings in the form of high complexity and cost.
